Art is often an expression of powerful emotions. Their strength boils up inside of us up to deflagration point. It can explode in scary outbursts of joy or anger or anything else; or it can express itself quietly, in solitude, in a creative outlet.
Below is the picture of a piece I made in ProcreateⓇ. The colors, the atmosphere, are a depiction of the emotions running through me then. They were an unthought choice. I was upset, frustrated and feeling down. The palette was a spontaneous selection. But checking the psychology of colors, it seems that purple can be associated with frustration. Remarkable.
WhyIf I could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.
Edward Hopper
I love Edward Hopper’s quote, but even more how Erik Marinovich expressed it in his beautiful piece of lettering here below. It’s a black-n-white piece so rich in dynamism, energy and variety!

Why do we make art? I believe that it’s because of extreme emotions inside of us, and the need to express them. It doesn’t matter if you are a newbie or an expert. Your way of dealing with certain emotions is different. You don’t talk with your friends, your parents or professional help about them. Some express the turmoil waging war inside of them by destruction. Some need to express whatever is inside of them by creating their own type of artwork.
Have you ever expressed your anger or frustration in an artwork? I would love to see it.

This is fascinating. I do paint now and then but I think I am generally a happy person and art brings me further away from negativity. What is also interesting is that I posted a piece on Artemisia Gentileschi today, who people also say, her works reflect her anger. I can see that after she was raped while a friend stood by and did nothing!
